MVST TREVA Aluminum Carry-On Reviewed

Our Verdict

The stylish, rugged looks and down-to-earth price make the MVST TREVA Aluminum Carry-On a huge hit. This suitcase is a fortress on wheels and offers an effortless travel experience, but be prepared for its weight and slightly limited capacity. Despite that, the quality is comparable to much more expensive brands, and its gleaming industrial design turns heads in the best way possible. I’m officially a convert, and you’ll probably be too.

A Few Words About MVST Select

MVST TREVA Aluminum Suitcases

MVST Select is a relatively new brand in the luggage space, but they’ve quickly gained a reputation for crafting high-quality, stylish aluminum suitcases at a great price. The TREVA Aluminum collection (former TREK) is particularly popular, but we’ve also tested their Carbon Fiber Suitcase S 2.0 and really liked it.

While they do offer a more streamlined selection compared to some competitors with wider style options, they prioritize premium materials, modern functionality, and robust construction. MVST’s commitment to quality extends to a limited lifetime warranty covering the shell and all functional aspects of your luggage.

Aesthetics

MVST TREVA Green

First impressions matter, and the gleaming TREVA Carry-On makes a strong one right out of the box. It feels substantial, clocking in at 9.6 lbs, but the weight is reassuring, speaking to its robust build quality.

With more sharp-edged contours than flowing curves, the suitcase is decidedly industrial-looking. Its aluminum exterior is both thick and visually striking, exuding an air of quality and resilience that inspires confidence. The metal finish is sleek and modern, with supple vertical lines and an interesting weave-like texture that cleverly hides minor scratches.

The TREVA’s color range is impressive, perhaps the widest I’ve seen for an aluminum suitcase. However, for me, this bag looks best in black, silver, or red, all of which have color-coordinated details for a clean, unified aesthetic. I’ve had the chance to closely examine the champagne and army green models, as well, and can confirm they all look fantastic in person. Just a heads up, the army green one is a little bit darker than it shows on the website, which I personally think is a good thing. Naturally, the black one doesn’t reflect the light like its counterparts, but it does make you feel like the protagonist of your own action movie.

My absolute favorite is the silver one, which is not only stunning but also conveniently versatile and extremely photogenic. It looks great in every light and blends effortlessly with any style, be it sporty, formal, or anything in my travel wardrobe. It’s definitely a conversation starter, and I’ll admit, I felt a certain swagger rolling it through the white, windswept streets of Tarifa.

Materials

MVST Luggage Review

MVST crafted this suitcase out of aviation grade aluminum, the same stuff used in, well, airplanes. That means it can handle the rough and tumble of travel like a champ. I like that the telescoping handle is also made of aluminum, and not plastic, as is so often the case. It feels so solid and secure, I wasn’t worried for a second that it would give way mid-trip.

The interior features a premium, anti-microbial fabric designed to neutralize odor-causing bacteria and prevent germ growth, so no more funky smells after a long journey.

Functionality and Features

Telescoping aluminum handle
360° spinner wheels
Zipperless locking-latch design
Riveted corner caps

It’s clear that MVST Select put some serious thought into making this suitcase tough and functional. The TREVA Carry-On is solidly built, moves easily from the airport to city streets, and can comfortably hold everything you need for a few days away. I found the 34 L capacity sufficient for weekend trips, but frequent overpackers might find it limiting.

Like all the best aluminum suitcases, it boasts heavy-duty locking latches instead of zippers and backs it all up with a lifetime warranty. Security is top-notch, thanks to TSA-approved combination locks and a rubber seal along the opening.

This robust aluminum carry-on held up admirably in all our tests and travels, although the weight did become noticeable when I had to carry it by hand on longer distances. At 9.6 lbs, the bag is heavier than many polycarbonate carry-ons, eating into your precious weight allowance.

The smooth wheels handled uneven terrain well, and the sleek design garnered more than a few admiring glances. The slow-release briefcase-style handles are a cool touch, and the locking latches proved to be a time-saver when opening and closing the case. Finally, I like the fact that every bag comes with a transparent protective cover and a leather luggage tag.

Wheels: The ultra-smooth RIVA™ Tri-Bearing wheels on the TREVA aluminum carry-on are slightly bigger than the industry standard, roll smoothly on flat surfaces, and handle uneven terrain very well.

Telescoping aluminum handle: The telescoping handle is adjustable to three heights, making it comfortable for users of all sizes to handle the suitcase. While it does feel a little bit flimsy when fully extended, it is made of the same durable aluminum as the case, and I’m sure it will last for a long time. Throughout testing, I never once doubted its stability or feared it might fail me.

Slow-releasing grab handles: One of the TREVA carry-on’s standout features is the slow-release handles located on both the top and side of the bag. They not only have a comfortable grip, but this mechanism prevents them from snapping back and potentially hitting your hand, adding an extra layer of convenience.

Zipperless closure: I love a zipperless locking-latch design on my suitcase, and this one comes with rubber seals and dual TSA-approved locks for the ultimate peace of mind. I dragged the MVST TREVA through sand and dirt for hours during a photo shoot in Cádiz, throwing it down sand dunes, and covering it in sand. It emerged unscathed, and everything we packed inside was unperturbed.

Reinforced corners: The riveted corner caps give an extra layer of defense against bumps, scrapes, and drops while also adding to the overall stylish aesthetic of the suitcase.

Interior

MVST TREVA Interior

While not the most spacious carry-on, the 34 L capacity is enough for a weekend away or a short business trip. It comfortably fit everything I needed for two days along the coast and even held bulky winter clothes for a recent week-long ski trip, paired with a weekender bag.

Unlike its polycarbonate counterparts, the TREVA aluminum case stands firm. There’s no “flex” here, just solid metal through and through, which means it doesn’t allow you to overstuff.

Fortunately, the interior layout is beautifully functional, with a clip-in divider sleeve on one side and a zippered (removable) compression pad along with solid compression straps on the other. This setup proved to be very effective in preventing items from shifting around and maximizing space utilization, allowing me to fit 5 sweaters, three pairs of pants, and ample undergarments in without any problem.

The two generous mesh pockets (one on each side) are great for flat items and accessories, keeping things organized inside.

The lining is soft and feels durable, and the fact that it is antimicrobial is such a benefit. Ideally, I would have liked a light-colored fabric that makes it easier to see what is inside, but some people might prefer it that way.

Strength and Durability

MVST TREVA Carry-On

This is where the MVST TREVA Carry-On truly shines. The aluminum shell feels indestructible, and the zipperless design with TSA locks inspires confidence. The reinforced corners provide additional strength where it’s needed most, ensuring that belongings stay safe and secure no matter what the journey throws at them.

I subjected the case to several trips and even a few intentional drops, and it emerged unscathed. The wheels, handles, and internal zippers also seem well-built and should withstand regular use. The lifetime warranty further reinforces the confidence in its durability.

In a nutshell, this suitcase is one of the best carry-on luggage pieces we tested in 2025, a veritable fortress on wheels, and I have no doubt it’ll survive years of travel abuse. However, aluminum, while incredibly strong and durable, adds some weight. It’s also more prone to scratches and dents compared to polycarbonate or fabric luggage, so be prepared for a suitcase that acquires “travel stories” along the way. I’m part of those who believe these imperfections add character over time, but they might not appeal to everyone. On the bright side, the textured finish on the TREVA helps camouflage minor scratches better than a smooth one.

Value

Affordable aluminum suitcase

Aluminum luggage doesn’t come cheap, but the MVST TREVA is probably the best quality/price aluminum suitcase on the market right now. Investing in a set is even better as it saves you 20% (with code “SET20”) over individually priced items.

Of course, if you’re a budget traveler who prioritizes lightweight practicality, there are more affordable options out there, but if you want durability, head-turning design, and peace of mind, this might be your perfect travel companion.

MVST TREVA vs. SPACE

MVST TREVA vs. Space
TREVA vs SPACE

MVST offers two intriguing aluminum carry-on options: the TREVA and the SPACE Aluminum. Both prioritize durability with a strong aluminum alloy shell but cater to different preferences.

In terms of design, the MVST SPACE suitcase boasts a sleek, futuristic exterior with a smooth finish. On the other hand, the TREVA model offers a more rugged, industrial aesthetic, with more color options and a textured weave-like finish that might hide scratches better.

The SPACE is slightly more lightweight despite having one liter more capacity compared to the TREVA, but the latter comes with two TSA-approved locks instead of just one on the SPACE.

Though different, the interiors of both suitcases are thoughtfully designed, with plenty of compartments and pockets for organizing your belongings.

How We Tested

MVST TREVA Review
Testing the MVST TREVA
Testing suitcase on cobblestone streets
TREVA Aluminum Suitcase

At Travel Away, we know the only way to truly test luggage is to take it on real adventures. That’s why I used the TREVA Carry-On on several weekend getaways, packed it for a week-long ski trip, and subjected it to a pretty challenging photo shoot in the wild.

I packed it with clothes, toiletries, electronics, and even souvenirs, testing its capacity and organization features. I also maneuvered it through busy airports, cobblestone streets, and various modes of transportation to evaluate its maneuverability and durability.

Note: At the time of testing, we reviewed the MVST TREK, the predecessor to today’s TREVA. The two are almost identical in design and performance, with TREVA introducing a name update plus two key upgrades: patent-pending tri-bearing silent precision wheels and enhanced locks. These refinements make an already excellent case even smoother, stronger, and smarter for your travels.

Thanks so much for this detailed review! It’s really helpful to hear about your personal experience with the TREVA suitcase. I’ve been on the fence about getting one, and your comments on its durability and comfort during long rides are exactly what I needed to know. Appreciate you taking the time to share this!

I’m currently trying to decide between the MVST TREK and the Sterling Pacific 35L. Has anyone here had experience with both and can share their thoughts? I’d love to know how they compare, especially in terms of build quality and ease of use. Thanks in advance for any advice!

  4. Kay Ihashi Kay Ihashi says:

During my trip to Japan, I had the opportunity to use this stunning TREK red suitcase. Its vibrant color caught the attention of everyone, from public places to airports and hotels. It is a rich and spectacular color that stands out in a crowd. It was like driving a hot red Ferrari in public.
The suitcase’s body durability is excellent. All four reinforced corners and spinner wheels were surveyed competently. I was surprised there were minor but many dents and scratches on one trip from LA to Tokyo, and more minor dents and scratches were returned to LA. But the red suitcase stays pretty. I realized aluminum suitcases have the significant disadvantage of not being able to expand when I add unexpected shopping and gifts. I had to give up some items due to the unexpandable aluminum that was made. I had some issues with the inside and outside designs and functional futures that MVST must correct. (1) Telescope Handle. The button of the collapse roller handle is located in the middle of the handle, and every time I grab it, the handle collapses easily. It was very annoying and inconvenient. (2) The telescope handle pull rods must be more robust and support a large suitcase with full content. When I moved my suitcases in public, on escalators, in hotels, and at airports, I quickly lost control and balance frequently. It was frustrating. (3) A cover curtain with a zipper on one side has two locks to secure one side of the suitcase’s contents. These J-Hooks do not secure cover content at all. Whenever I open the suitcase, one side of the contents falls out. These J-Hooks are useless and must be redesigned and secured. I also recommend having two additional J-Hooks on the top and bottom to ensure the contents do not fall out whenever you open the suitcase. (4) With that said about J-Hooks, it would be nice to have secured strong J-Hooks on the other side of the cover curtain with a zipper pocket. (5) It would be functionally effective to have small-sized zip pockets on the inside cover curtain. And the last suggestion for improvement.(6) TSA-approved secured locks numbers are too tiny for me. It was very inconvenient every time I had to look at the numbers. In conclusion, I love the exterior design and color of the suitcase. However, a large size (including medium and small) is only recommended if all the valuable improvements I mentioned can be made. I have never expected aluminum to get so many dents and scratches quickly. How could other brands’ large-size aluminum suitcases stand damages? I may select a Polycarbonate suitcase for a large size for the next overseas trip. I look forward to seeing improvements.

  5. Hey, Kay! I appreciate your insights, and it’s always great to hear different experiences! We haven’t tried the larger suitcases ourselves, but we’ve been using the TREK carry-on frequently, and we absolutely love it. It’s lightweight, easy to maneuver, and the stylish design makes it a standout piece in any crowd. While aluminum does naturally show a few marks over time, we believe it adds character and doesn’t detract from the suitcase’s overall durability.

MVST’s commitment to combining functionality with style is evident, and they continuously improve based on feedback. We’re confident they’ll take your suggestions into consideration for future models, making this already fantastic suitcase even better!
