As someone who’s been testing travel gear for years, it takes a lot to impress me. But when I first used the Bellroy Lite Carry-On, I knew something was different.
This is Bellroy’s first venture into rolling luggage, and as expected from a brand that loves to design and innovate, they did a pretty amazing job. I’ve traveled with it on several trips now, and it’s safe to say this is one of the most thoughtfully designed, easy-to-use carry-ons I’ve ever owned. I’m genuinely excited to share my experience with it.
Let’s dive into why this bag could very well be the best carry-on for frequent flyers in 2025.
Overview

Coming from a four-spinner-wheel user, I was initially dubious about how a two-wheeled bag would fare. But the larger wheels on the Bellroy Lite Carry-On are smooth, quiet, and incredibly rugged.
In testing, I found that they handle concrete, cobblestones, and even short stretches of gravel better than any other four-wheeler out there. Yes, you’ll need to guide the bag a bit more than with a four-wheel case, but the rolling experience was smoother than expected, and the bag is shockingly lightweight, easy, and enjoyable to travel with, even when fully packed.
A Few Words about Bellroy

Bellroy started back in 2010 in Melbourne with a simple but brilliant idea: to reinvent the wallet. And, they did just that. From there, the brand expanded into travel gear, and I’ve been a fan ever since.
Their Melbourne Backpack has been my everyday companion for years (it still is!), and their unbelievably light and practical Lite Duffel has taken me on countless weekend trips.
I don’t want this to sound like a cliché, but their products are designed to solve real travel problems while looking great. They’re functional, genuinely thoughtful, made with high-quality materials, and built to last.
The Basics:

- Capacity: 38L – Perfect for a 3-5 day trip.
- Weight: 4.63 lbs (2.1 kg) – Not a typo! This bag is light.
- Dimensions: 20.1 x 13.6 x 9.1 inches (51.1 x 34.5 x 23.1 cm) – Carry-on compliant on all airlines.
- Materials: Recycled Nylon, Recycled Polyester, Ripstop Nylon, YKK Zippers, Polypropylene, Aluminum – Sustainable, strong, and lightweight.
- Warranty: 10 years – Bellroy stands behind their products.
Materials and Durability

The exterior of the Lite Carry-On is a combination of recycled nylon and polyester, which makes it both eco-friendly and durable.
The YKK zippers are robust, smooth, and reliable, which is something that’s essential in luggage. These glide effortlessly, never snagging, even when the bag is packed to its limit.
The fabric has held up extremely well in my experience. There are no signs of wear and tear, even though I chose the light Ash color. The aluminum telescopic handle is smooth and well-built, while the polypropylene frame adds structure without making the bag too rigid.
External Features

When it comes to travel, efficiency is key. Bellroy nailed it. The Lite Carry-On was built with ease and mobility in mind. Here’s what I love most:
Telescopic Handle: The Lite Carry-On is equipped with a telescopic handle that offers three height settings, making it comfortable for users of varying heights. When not in use, the handle can be hidden beneath a zippered flap, keeping it sleek and preventing it from getting caught on anything when you’re moving through crowds or stowing the bag away. It’s small design details like this that make the bag feel like it was built with real-world use in mind.
Self-Replacing Wheels & Handle: One feature I never thought I’d appreciate as much as I do? The self-replacing wheels and handle. These two parts are designed to be easily swapped out in under 10 minutes, so if you ever find yourself with a broken wheel or handle, you won’t have to replace the whole bag. This is a huge selling point for anyone who values longevity and repairability in their luggage. A genius move by Bellroy.
Rollerblade-Inspired TPU Wheels: The two oversized wheels glide smoothly over any surface – airport tiles, gravel, cobblestone, you name it. I was initially skeptical about the lack of four wheels, but these wheels proved to be stable and shockingly easy to control. Whether I was navigating tight airport corridors or walking down narrow cobbled streets in Europe, they made it feel effortless.
Grab Handles: There are handles on the top, side, and bottom of the bag, making it easy to grab and go from any angle. Whether it’s the overhead bin or the trunk of your Uber, you can always grab it with ease. They’re not padded, but comfortable nonetheless.
Top Quick-Access Zippered Pocket: I don’t have to tell you how handy this is for in-transit essentials. While it doesn’t run the full length of the bag, it’s perfect for a scarf, a small tablet, a snack, and a spare T-shirt, or even a light windbreaker if it’s super packable. Inside, you’ll find an integrated key clip and slip pockets to keep your passport, glasses, in-ear headphones, or any other flat items organized and within reach.
Interior and Organization

Inside, the Lite Carry-On is just as well thought out. The interior lining is made from recycled polyester, and it feels surprisingly durable. Bellroy has done an excellent job of providing ample organization without overcomplicating things.
The layout follows a classic suitcase style, with a zippered section on the left and plenty of depth on the right for bulkier items. In between, there’s a flat-item section that doubles as laptop storage and a lid for the deep packing area.
The Right Side: This is the main packing area, where you’ll store shoes, gear, toiletries, and most of your clothes. There’s plenty of space for a weekend’s worth of belongings, and even more, depending on how light you pack or how skillful you are with your packing cubes.
The Left Side: I call this the zippered section, but Bellroy refers to it as the “in-built packing cells.” It’s essentially the main lid of the bag, lined with two zippered pockets. I usually use the upper pocket for socks and undergarments, keeping them separate from the rest of my gear (just note that this shares space with the external quick-access pocket, so split it wisely). The lower pocket is mesh, making it perfect for accessories, tech bits, a book, or anything you want to keep visible and accessible. A quick tip: the more you store on the left side, the fuller the bag will look.
The In-Between Flat-Item Section: This is a good spot for storing flat items, including your laptop, since it sits right at the center of the case. And the best part is that you can easily access your device at security without opening the whole bag. It’s not a dedicated laptop sleeve per se, but it does offer some level of protection, especially if you pack softer items around it. That said, I’d still use a separate laptop sleeve for peace of mind.
Sustainability

If you’re someone who cares about the planet (and we all should), you’ll appreciate that the Lite Carry-On is crafted from recycled materials. From the ripstop nylon to the polyester lining, every detail has been considered with the environment in mind. And with Bellroy’s B Corp certification, you can rest assured that your luggage was made with social responsibility at its core.
Real-Life Testing: How It Handled My Travels

I’m not one to make quick judgments about a bag, so I took the Bellroy Lite Carry-On on several trips across different types of terrain. From quick city breaks to weekend escapes along the coast, this bag handled everything like a pro.
Airports: Whether rushing to catch a flight or navigating through busy terminals, the Lite Carry-On was a breeze to maneuver. The two wheels, combined with the retractable handle, let me glide effortlessly from one gate to the next. Its small size and lightweight build made lifting it into overhead compartments really easy. The grab handles on all sides were a real lifesaver for quick lifts, and the telescoping handle tucks neatly into a zippered pocket, preventing snags in crowded spaces. Another thing I love: the Lite Carry-On meets the carry-on size restrictions of every airline I’ve flown, including those ultra-strict budget airlines in Europe. It’s one less thing to worry about.
City Streets: I was amazed at how smoothly the bag rolled over cobblestone streets. It’s one of those small, often overlooked features that make a huge difference when you’re traveling on foot with your luggage.
Packing Efficiency: The Lite Carry-On has just the right amount of space, and the way it’s organized made packing feel effortless. I easily fit everything I needed for a 4-day trip with room to spare, and it never felt like I was cramming stuff in. A mix of small and medium-sized packing cubes really maximizes the interior, helping keep things neat.
One thing to note is that some compartments share space, so you can’t fully pack them all at once. For me, that’s actually a smart design choice; it encourages you to pack strategically and stay organized. It might sound tricky, but honestly, it’s simple, intuitive, and effective.
The Few Things I’d Tweak

The Lite Carry-On is nearly perfect, but there are a couple of minor improvements I’d love to see:
Laptop Compartment: While the flat-item section works well for laptop storage, it could use a bit more padding for extra protection, especially if you travel with tech regularly.
Compression Feature: A compression system in the main compartment would be a great addition, particularly for longer trips or those who tend to overpack. It would help maximize space and keep everything neatly in place.
Final Verdict

With the Lite Carry-On, Bellroy has set a new standard for luggage, blending ease of use, practical features, and sustainable design. Every time I use it, I’m reminded of how much simpler and more enjoyable travel can be with the right gear.
From its lightweight, durable build to the thoughtful organization inside, it has everything I need for a few days away. It’s the perfect size, fits into any overhead bin without issue, and glides smoothly no matter the terrain. And, I’m totally into the fresh, modern look. It feels like a bag that’s built for today.
If you’re tired of overpacking, dealing with heavy luggage, or just want a smarter travel experience, the Bellroy Lite Carry-On is the bag you’ve been waiting for.
