The Underwater Museum – A Brilliant Ecological Project in Cancun

Located in the beautiful crystal waters surrounding Cancun and Isla Mujeres in Mexico, the stunning underwater museum – Museo Subacuatico de Arte alias MUSA is among the most unusual scuba diving sites in the world. Created by English sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor, the museum features over 400 permanent sculptures made from pH-neutral material in order to preserve and promote coral life in the region. The museum was inaugurated in 2010 with its first phase called “The Silent Evolution”. At that time, 200 statues were established on the bottom of the ocean from which the Dream Collector, Man on Fire and The Gardner of Hope were especially designed to attract different species of marine life. Furthermore, the exclusive collection of underwater sculptures...

La Tomatina Kicks Off The World’s Biggest Food Fight

There’s no doubt Spain is the land of fiestas and August is the month of La Tomatina – the world’s biggest tomato fight which takes place each year in the town of Bunol near Valencia. Maybe it’s the country’s beautiful weather or maybe it’s the Spaniards’ exuberance, but when it comes to honoring a patron saint, because most of the Spanish fiestas have religious roots, nobody in Europe does it better than the passionate, vibrant and colorful Spanish nation. Alongside Valencia’s flamboyant Fallas, the famous San Fermin in Pamplona, the spectacular Malaga Fair or the enchanted Feria de Abril in Seville, La Tomatina stands among Spain’s most impressive fiestas. Happening every year on the last Wednesday of August, La Tomatina is actually part of a...

Movile Cave – A Corner Of Mars On Earth

Romania boasts many unusual places and Movile Cave (pestera Movile) is definitely one of these. The story began in 1986, when a group of Romanian researchers discovered the cave in Mangalia, a town near the Black Sea.After a more detailed study, they observed that the cave was inhabited by some unusual organisms. The real reason why Movile Cave has shocked the entire scientific world was in fact the weird ecosystem found inside. Several animal species, of which 33 were completely new, have been found in this absolutely independent bionetwork. The novelty resides in the discovery of the first ecosystem on Earth whose life is based on chemosynthesis (life without oxygen). According to scientists, this procedure was supposed to be possible only on Mars, Europa and...

Zakynthos: The Spectacular Navagio Beach

Located in the northwest side of Zakynthos, right next to Anafotiria village, Navagio Beach is probably the most exotic and beautiful beach in Greece, and maybe in Europe. Featuring some incredible clear waters, white powdery sand and a striking backdrop of steep cliffs, the cove resembles perfectly that Thai dream landscape frequently featured in movies and postcards. Pretty unusual for a typical European beach, Navagio, also known as Shipwreck Cove or Smugglers Cove due to the Panagiotis ship abandoned here in 1983, can be reached by boat from the nearby Porto Vromi, from the port of Saint Nicholas or from Zakynthos city. There are no public facilities on Navagio Beach, but this is in fact the thing that makes it so special, isolated and magical – A turquoise...

Tanning – The Voyage From Shame To Pride

Tanning – The Voyage From Shame To Pride

I love tanning, both the process as well as the results, so I know many things about it, including advantages and disadvantages. However the other days I was wondering how and when this dark skin color actually became so fashionable. And so I found out that although today is a trend almost all over the world, tanning has its origins in Western Europe. It seems that the 20th-century’s trendsetter, Coco Chanel has not just released women from corsets and garbed them into Little Black Dresses, but she also made sunbathing fashionable. Before 1920, having a tanned skin was not at all the trend that it is today. On the contrary, the process was always associated with people from lower classes who used to spend time working outside. Furthermore, during the Victorian...

Café del Mar – The Quintessence of Ibiza

I think we all agree that Ibiza would have never been the magical island that it is today without its charming hippy flair, the world-famous Pacha or the chill-out atmosphere and the dramatic sunsets at Café del Mar. Therefore, the island has developed some amazing epitomes, becoming more like a trendsetter and a way of life than a simple party destination. Established in 1980 in San Antonio, Ibiza, the legendary Café del Mar has become famous all over the world due mainly to its compilations, although the true magic of this place lies in the perfect symbiosis between the music carefully chosen and the incredible sunsets over the bay of Calo des Moro. Now the brand has expanded both in Spain, as well as in various venues around the globe, covering exclusive...
