My First Interview

My First Interview

I am so happy today! I’ve just had my first interview. Maybe it’s not such a big deal, but for me is pretty important and considering that only few months have past since I’ve made my first account on a social network and launched my blog, this interview proves that my work was not in vain. Everything started few days ago when someone contacted me on Twitter, asking if I would like to give an interview about my favorite beach. At first I was a little suspicious and very surprised that someone was interested in me, so I started asking questions. I found out that the interview was for iwantsun.co.uk and I felt proud that they picked me. What can I say, being in the spotlight is not such a bad thing as I used to believe. As a freelance writer, I know that...

7 Most Famous Ferris Wheels in the World

“A Ferris Wheel is a nonbuilding structure consisting of a rotating upright wheel with passenger cars (gondolas or capsules) attached to the rim in such a way that as the wheel turns, the cars are kept upright, usually by gravity.” (Wikipedia) They say the “Pleasure wheels” were invented in the 17th century somewhere in Bulgaria, although there are manuscripts proving their early presence also in Constantinople, Romania (Spirii Hill), Siberia, India and England. Without straying too far from their original purpose, Ferris wheels are fun, scary and sometimes romantic, providing great experiences and lovely ways of seeing a destination from above. 1 Singapore Flyer Opened to the public in March 2008, Singapore Flyer is the tallest Ferris wheel in the world....

The Curious Case of Coffee in Spain

“Coffee is real good when you drink it; it gives you time to think. It’s a lot more than just a drink; it’s something happening. Not as in hip, but like an event, a place to be, but not like a location, but like somewhere within yourself. It gives you time, but not actual hours or minutes, but a chance to be, like be yourself, and have a second cup.”- Gertrude Stein Spaniards might not be as stylish as people in Vienna and they probably didn’t invent a society around coffee, making from this a cultural experience, but they still have some interesting habits when it comes to coffee. I’ve made this article for first time travelers to Spain and for those who believed that ordering a coffee at Starbucks can be difficult. My Coffee Experience in...

Going Home For Easter

Going Home For Easter

Now, that Easter has gone, leaving behind lots of fatigue accumulated over an eventful week, a refrigerator full of goods, baskets with painted eggs scattered all over the house and chocolate bunnies, I feel sad at the thought that another year has passed, but yet relieved and with a strange craving for summer. I’ve just came back from my grandparents’ town where I celebrated the orthodox Easter with my family in a traditional atmosphere. I’m glad that, after so many years I managed to go home instead of staying with my friends or traveling during this spiritual festivity. It was nice to gather the whole family around the same old table, have lunch and talk, but it was even greater to remember my childhood, those sweet innocent days that will never come...

The Amazing Phuket

Highlights include Maya Bay / Maya Beach (where “The Beach” was filmed), Phang Nga Bay, Koh Phi Phi, James Bond Island (where one of the first 007′s was filmed; aka Khao Phing Kan). The video footage was filmed using a Canon 5D Mark II Is this real or is just a piece of heaven fallen from the sky? I’ve always wondered… They say Phuket Island, also known as “Pearl of the South”, is the largest island in Thailand and one of the most popular destinations in Asia, but I’m not convinced until I’ll see it with my own eyes. Blessed with endless sunny beaches, charming scenery, limestone cliffs, lush green forests, incredible waters and magical tropical sunsets, Phuket is one of the most beautiful places on Earth and...

Barcelona Vs. Madrid

Barcelona Vs. Madrid

Spain, one of my favorite countries in the world, is very well-known for the endless battle between Barcelona and Madrid. I’ve visited both and somehow, I have watched the fight from inside, having friends on both sides. I believe these two cities are great, different but beautiful and it’s a little weird for me to understand the rivalry between them and the never-ending questions underlying this race- Barcelona or Madrid?, Messi or Ronaldo?, Santiago Bernabeu or Camp Nou? Catalonia or Castilla?, Spanish food or Catalan cuisine?, Modernista or Classico? and the list can go on. After the events that took place on the streets of Barcelona in 2010, when over one million people marched for the independence of Catalonia, it seems that this Spanish area is more...

100 Cities and Their Nicknames

100 Cities and Their Nicknames

I like nicknames, they define us better than our names, they are clever and funny and they tell so much about our personality and sometimes, about our aspect, although this might be the worst case. I’ve had plenty of nicknames from “Bal”  and “Maimu” to “Blondy” but now everyone calls me by using diminutives of my name and when someone calls me “Miruna”,  something is definitely wrong. I know the Internet is full of lists with cities’ nicknames but I decided to make my own, composed of the world’s most important cities and I hope this will be useful for my readers. 1. Paris – The City of Love, The City of Light, La Ville-Lumiere 2. Prague- The City of hundred spires, The Golden City, The...
